About Workshop

Dear Mindful Leaders, As we continue our journey through the Mindful Leadership Series, we’d like to take a moment to reflect on these five core mental health skills of Module 1- Putting Your Own Mask First. These practical tools are designed to support Your personal well-being and help you show up more intentionally for your teams. Here are the five core skills and the resources we’re sharing to support your continued learning:

1. Breathing for Purpose The first skill focuses on intentional breathing as a way to self-regulate in moments of stress or overwhelm. We encourage you to visit this simple yet powerful practice through the Box Breathing article attached.

2. Understanding the Mental Health Continuum as context Mental health exists on a continuum, knowing and fully understanding this helps you to recognize where you are — and where others may be — at any given time. We’ve included the Mental Health Continuum visual to remind you:

  • Healthy & Thriving – This is our goal, and we can remain here through practice and making Skills 1,3, 4 and 5 a habit.
  • Common Reversible Distress – This level is a natural response to distress, overwhelm or any such mental challenge – but it is manageable with the right tools and skills.
  • Injury – This level requires more than just skills; professional support may be required.
  • Illness – This is the clinical level requiring further deep professional care at times even hospitalization.

The goal of these skills is to help you stay in or keep bouncing back (resilience) to a healthier, thriving state. Furthermore, using the right language and naming convention helps you as leader to begin destigmatizing mental health.

3. Self-Awareness Through the EEB As part of this journey, you completed the Employee Effectiveness Benchmark (EEB). This assessment offered you a snapshot of your current state of well-being and areas for development. Please refer to your personal report or development plan as a tool for ongoing reflection. If you were flagged as being in a more critical space and gave consent, please keep an eye out for direct outreach from our team. We’re here to support you.

4. Practicing Self-Compassion Leaders often extend compassion to others but forget to apply it inward. In this skill, we focus on building kindness and patience with ourselves. Attached, you’ll find a self-compassion article to help you reinforce this practice. Remember: being gentle with yourself enhances your ability to lead with empathy.

The RAIN practice (Guided Meditation Video) – a is a powerful mindfulness tool to help you pause and process difficult emotions. We encourage you to take your time with this practice, building one skill into your routine before moving to the next. Mental well-being is about consistency, not perfection.

“Mental health requires consistency over perfection.” Feel free to explore these resources slowly and mindfully. If you have any questions or need further guidance, don’t hesitate to reach out.

Warm regards
